She Said is based on the book of the same name & New York Times investigation by Pulitzer prize-winning journalists, Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey. The film charts the journey of reporters & editors engaged in the pursuit of truth & shares the courage of survivors & witnesses. Together, their commitment & bravery sparked a global conversation & helped propel the #MeToo movement. At its heart, She Said is a true story about people, many of them women, many of them mothers, who summoned the courage to speak out & seek justice. The film is a compelling, moving reminder of the power of individual people, armed with determination to change the world.
Our free community preview was exclusively for women of colour. Our intention is to foster a safe space to platform the story of Rowena Chiu, one of the brave women who came forward & who features (played by Angela Yeoh) in She Said.
The film was followed by a special Q+A with Rowena and Angela, chaired by author and activist, Winnie M Li, to explore a discussion about the on-screen representation of East & Southeast Asian women, their marginalisation, trauma and how as a community we can support each other.
