The Sympathizer is the landmark series, based on the Pulitzer prize winning novel of the same name, by Viet Thanh Nguyen. A comedy black as tar that plumbs the depths of absurdity, drama and horror; that lays bare the refugee experience. It is both a comedy of horrors and psychological thriller that audaciously reinvents the war genre and reclaims history through its piercing commentary on identity and ideology.

An espionage thriller and cross-culture satire about the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his new life as a refugee in Los Angeles, where he learns that his spying days aren't over.

We hosted a very special drinks reception and preview celebrating the release The Sympathizer on May 21 at Picturehouse Central, with a post screening Q&A with Molly Harris, Chipo Chung and Hanako Footman; moderated by Suyin Haynes.
